  Scottsdale
offers voter resources as election nears

Several important resources from the Scottsdale City Clerk’s Office are available to voters as the Sept. 2 election nears. In conjunction with the county, state, and federal primary elections, the city of Scottsdale will hold a non-partisan General Election on Sept. 2 to elect a mayor and three City Council members.

The clerk’s Web pages – http://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/elections.asp -- include the following:

• Poll site listings, including an interactive precinct map of Scottsdale showing precinct boundaries and polling places for each area.

• The 2008 Candidate Information Pamphlet for mayor and council candidates who are listed on the ballot. The site also includes links to listings for all candidates, including write-in candidates.

• A guide to requirements for voter identification at the poles.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 2. Voters with inquiries about the election should contact the Maricopa County Election office at (602) 506-1511.

On election night, Scottsdale will be providing mayor and council election returns as they become available from Maricopa County. First returns will be released no earlier than 8 p.m.

Any available, unofficial returns will be posted on the city’s Web site at http://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/elections/090208ElectionResults.asp and on CityCable 11, the city’s municipal cable channel.

Official returns are not expected to be available until after 5:00 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5.

To be elected on Tuesday, candidates must receive more than 50 percent of the ballots cast in the election. If not, the top two vote getters per open seat will advance to a Nov. 4 Runoff Election.
