Eastbound closure this weekend on Loop 101 Freeway
The Arizona Department of Transportation plans to close an eastbound section of the Loop 101 Freeway this weekend between the Tatum Boulevard and Hayden Road intersections.
Motorists should exit the freeway early and take designated detour routes to avoid significant construction on nearby surface roads.
Restrictions are planned on this eastbound Loop 101 section from 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25. A complete eastbound closure will take place initially, but ADOT plans to reopen one eastbound lane between Scottsdale and Hayden roads on Saturday morning, Aug. 23.
During these restrictions, the recommended detour route for motorists traveling across the East Valley is State Route 51. From there, motorists can head south to the Loop 202 Freeway and reconnect to the Loop 101.
For travel in the north Scottsdale area, the signed ADOT detour routes will be:
- Southbound State Route 51 to Cactus Road and then eastbound to the Loop 101
- Starting Saturday morning, Aug. 23: Tatum Boulevard south to Mayo Boulevard, Mayo east to Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale Road north to the Loop 101

Motorists should be aware that the intersection of Scottsdale Road and Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard is restricted to one lane of through traffic and one left-turn lane in all four directions through late November.
Scottsdale Road also is restricted to one open through lane in each direction between Paradise and Grayhawk drives.
Local business access on Frank Lloyd Wright is being maintained during this street improvement project with signs directing motorists to business entry points. Traffic delays, however, can be expected.
