Amy Davison

Amy Davison, the city’s Web services manager, was named the 2009 recipient of the Herbert R. Drinkwater Award at the city’s annual employee awards ceremony on Thursday, Jan. 8.

The Drinkwater award, in its 11th year, goes annually to a Scottsdale city employee or employees who set an outstanding example through their volunteerism and dedication to serving others.

During the past 10 years, Davison has been involved with several organizations and activities that make a positive difference in the lives of others, including Make a Difference, Rotary eClub, Habitat for Humanity and the Cox Heights Neighborhood committee.

In 2003, she founded an organization called Charity Chicks. Its mission is to “share the joy of giving” by organizing events to raise funds for charitable causes. In 2005, Charity Chicks raised more than $10,000 by hosting a golf tournament, poker night, garage sales, selling “Think Pink” bracelets and participating in the 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk.

Davison supported the Leukemia and Lymphoma Team in Training by participating in a triathlon. She also mentored a team of first-time marathoners that raised more than $40,000.

Charity Chicks has held fundraising events such as marathons, reading with kids at shelters, washing dogs, organizing a night glow golf tournament and a comedy show. At work, she helped coordinate the Scottsdale Employee Charitable Choices campaign and serves as co-captain for the Fit Scottsdale Running team.

“Amy has dedicated much of her personal time and talent to making an impact on the lives of others both at work and in the community,” said Mayor Mary Manross in presenting the award to Davison. “She is generous, caring and always devoted to helping others.”

The Drinkwater Award is named for the city’s former mayor, who served four terms and became one of the most popular elected officials in the state. Drinkwater retired in 1996. In December 1997 he died of cancer.

Robin Meinhart, the city’s downtown liaison, received the Bill Donaldson Award, named after a former city manager. The award is given annually by Scottsdale’s city manager to an employee or group of employees who show great vision and innovation, help others through humanitarian efforts and work as team-builders.

“Robin is a great leader who truly believes and practices public service,” said Acting City Manager John Little, who presented Meinhart with the award. “She demonstrates great love and compassion for this community and its citizens. She helps make Scottsdale the great place it is.”
