Scottsdale enhances roadway safety campaign
The start of school means more cars, bicyclists and pedestrians are on the streets of Scottsdale – and more risk of collisions.
The Scottsdale Police and Transportation departments are working together to enhance the original Focus on Safety campaign through a grant from the Arizona Governor’s Office on Highway Safety.
The new focus of the campaign will be to target all users of the road -- cars, bicycles and pedestrians -- and enhance and reinforce the responsibilities for each. Elements of the campaign include:
- Public service announcements on the radio and in schools – just in time for classes to begin
- Several city Web pages are dedicated to the Focus on Safety campaign offering tips and advice on how to stay safe no matter how you get around the city www.scottsdaleaz.gov/traffic/GOHS.asp
- Safety graphics placed in schools and near busy intersections where cars, bicyclists and pedestrians are likely to cross paths
- A series of safety trading cards for children to collect, each providing safety tips to get them to and from school safely
- Colorful wristbands for anyone who pledges to focus on safety
This program closely follows the Stop on Red week supported by both the Police and Transportation departments.
Focus on Safety…your life depends on it!
