Original July 3, 2012 release:
Scottsdale city manager resigns
City Manager David E. Richert submitted his resignation on Monday, July 2. The resignation is effective immediately. Mr. Richert joined the city in 2008 and served the last two years as city manager.
Mr. Richert stated that he felt there was not sufficient support by the Mayor and City Council to remain effective in his position.
The City Council met with Mr. Richert Monday as part of his annual review, and continued that agenda item to Tuesday. At Tuesday's meeting the Council may consider appointing an acting city manager.
If that does not occur, Bill Murphy, community services executive director, will serve as acting city manager until July 9, at which time Public Safety Executive Director Alan Rodbell will assume the position. This order of succession is established by Resolution 8755 approved by the City Council on July 6, 2011.
Mayor W.J. “Jim” Lane provided this statement:
“I would like to thank David Richert for his dedicated service during a very challenging period in Scottsdale. Thanks to Scottsdale’s employees, our city is emerging from the recession stronger and better prepared for the future. They will continue to serve this community with excellence.”
