Downtown's Summer Spectacular Artwalk Returns
Thursday, July 10
A summer celebration of art, music and more is planned for Downtown Scottsdale at the Summer Spectacular ArtWalk on Thursday, July 10 from 7-9 p.m. Scottsdale’s famed art galleries welcome all with a fantastic party, complete with live entertainment, free food and drink samples, artist demonstrations, and gallery show openings. It’s all free to the public. This 19th annual event is hosted by the Scottsdale Gallery Association (SGA) in conjunction with the City of Scottsdale Downtown Office and sponsored in part by ArtBook.
ArtWalkers will enjoy many show openings and artist receptions at dozens of galleries along the ArtWalk route. Among attractions of interest is a special fundraising exhibit for the International Rescue Committee at Gebert Contemporary (formerly Chiaroscuro) on Main Street, including lithographs by Marc Chagall, Alexander Calder and Joan Miro. IRC, begun in 1933 at the behest of Albert Einstein, will also be showing the artwork of refugee children at Cline Gallery on Marshall Way (more details at theIRC.org/phoenix). Additional gallery happenings can be found on the ArtWalk website at www.ScottsdaleGalleries.com.
In addition to great art, this year’s Summer Spectacular ArtWalk has lined up some exciting live music and entertainment. This year’s event features Something Blue (jazz), Boneyard (acoustic duo), Hector Martinez (South American folk), Elijah Bossenbroek (neo classical piano), Mark Barry (blues and folk), Grant Ferguson (classic rock) and the solo singer-songwriter showcase Soliloquies® featuring Brian Chartrand and Josh Foster.
For a refreshing pause along the way, China Mist Iced Teas will be keeping the crowd cool with free, ice-cold samples. Additional samples from area restaurants are frequently on hand, as are chances to win some great prizes from Shell Vacations and others.
