Fines for feeding wildlife in city parks
  take effect Friday, June 15

Park visitors who feed birds may be fined starting Friday, June 15.

The city recently passed an ordinance prohibiting people from feeding wildlife at city parks. The ban is necessary to manage the growing bird population, protect the health of wildlife and improve the quality of water in city lakes.

The ordinance also addresses the harming of wildlife. The violation is a class two misdemeanor and can carry a penalty ranging from a suspended sentence to four months in jail, $750 fine plus surcharges and up to two years’ probation.
