Scottsdale City Council appoints new city auditor

A University of Missouri finance executive who has held auditor positions in Arizona, Oregon and Missouri has been appointed as Scottsdale’s new city auditor by the City Council.

Sharron E. Walker is currently director of financial reporting and taxation at the University of Missouri in Columbia. She will begin her new job with Scottsdale on June 15. The Council approved her appointment on June 2.

“We’re pleased to be able to have someone of Sharron’s caliber and experience in this very important role,” said Mayor W. J. “Jim” Lane.

Previously, Walker was the first director of the Division of School Audits at the Arizona Office of the Auditor General from 2001 to 2008. She was deputy director of the Oregon Audits Division from 1995 to 2001, and audit manager with the Missouri State Auditor’s Office prior to that. She has also served in a municipal government audit position for City Utilities of Springfield, Mo.

She is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner. While in Arizona, Walker also served on the state Board of Accountancy’s first Peer Review Oversight Advisory Committee, and has been active in professional organizations, including the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the Association of Government Accountants and the National State Auditors Association.

“I am excited for the opportunity the City Council is giving me to bring my broad range of experience to serve the citizens of Scottsdale,” she said.

She holds a master’s in business administration from Southwest Missouri State University and a bachelor’s in business administration from Southeast Missouri State University.

She is one of six city officers appointed directly by the City Council.
