Nominating petitions, referendum arguments due June 4
Nominating petitions are due at 5 p.m. June 4 to secure a spot on the ballot for September’s Mayoral and City Council elections.
June 4 is also the deadline for submitting arguments supporting or opposing Proposition 403, a referendum on the September ballot asking voters to approve or disapprove the City Council’s adoption of Ordinance No. 3774 relating to dust control measures.
Residents must be registered by Aug. 4 to be qualified to vote in the Scottsdale General Election. Applications for early ballots for the election will be available beginning June 1. Official ballots will be available beginning July 31.
The Mayor’s position and three City Council seats are open this year. Candidates must receive a vote on the majority of ballots cast to be elected outright in the Sept. 2 election. If not, the top two vote getters per open seat will advance to a Nov. 4 Runoff Election, coinciding with state and federal elections on the same day.
Successful candidates will be sworn into office during the first City Council meeting of January, 2009.
More information on Scottsdale elections and how to become a candidate is available through the city of Scottsdale’s Candidate Handbook. A copy is available for viewing and downloading at this link:
