More than 400 young people expected to participate in All-City Track Meet
More than 400 young people, ages 7-14, will lace up their running shoes and vie for top honors at the Scottsdale All-City Track Meet beginning at 6 p.m. Friday at the Saguaro High School Stadium , 6250 N. 82nd St.
The track meet is a qualifying event for the National Hershey Track Program. The city's Youth Sports Division runs a three-week after-school track sports program to teach participants the "FUNdamentals" of track and field and prepare them for the all-city meet and subsequent competition at higher levels. Participants compete in running events, the standing long jump and the softball throw.
Top contenders in the event have the opportunity to move on to competition in the East Valley District Track Meet and the Arizona State Track Meet.
The event is free and open to the public, and regularly draws crowds of more than 1,000 spectators.
For more information on enrollment in Youth Sports programs, visit the city's Web site at www.ScottsdaleAZ.gov/sports/youth.asp or call (480) 312-7657.
