Scottsdale Invites Valley Residents to “Re-Discover Downtown Scottsdale”

  Scottsdale Invites Valley Residents to “Re-Discover Downtown
  Scottsdale” via a month-long series of events including bike
  races, duck races, trolley theater and a Friday evening
  custom/vintage car show

With summer fast approaching, the city of Scottsdale is encouraging Valley residents to “Re-Discover Downtown Scottsdale” which in the past five years has seen a cumulative private investment of $1.9 billion, and $66 million in public investment.  The new face of Scottsdale’s Downtown is in part due to the more than 60 private investment projects and 14 public projects  that include refinements to the canal banks to include pedestrian paths, shade trees, fountains, and access to outdoor patios, cafés and restaurants.  Investment report available at:

MAY 4 CYCLO DE MAYO BICYCLE GRAND PRIX.  The annual Cyclo de Mayo Bicycle Grand Prix and Fiesta will return to the Downtown 5th Ave. corridor from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 4.  This event, which is a series of 10 bicycle races held on a ½ mile closed circuit will involve closure of sections of 5th Ave., Third Ave. and Craftsman Court,  Additional event information is available on-line at: Contact: Information - www.proconcyclingaz.com  -  Register @ www.bikereg.com/events

MAY 10 ‘GOING DOWNTOWN’ EVENT INCLUDES TROLLEY THEATER AND DOWNTOWN IDOL COMPETITION.  Valley residents are encouraged to re-discover downtown Scottsdale through a unique series of events and activities being held from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 10 throughout downtown Scottsdale. The Going Downtown event kicks off with an invitation to hop onboard the “Trolley Theater” to view a progressive three-act play about Scottsdale’s early days. During the day, attendees can jump on and off the Trolley Theater to see the free, three-act play. At sunset, the Valley-wide search for the best karaoke singer ends during the Downtown Idol competition. SMoCA INVITES THE PUBLIC TO A SUMMER OPENING RECEPTION MAY 16.  The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art plans to celebrate another cycle of exhibitions for the summer season during an opening reception from 7 to 8:30 p.m. May 16.

The event is free and open to the public. New season exhibitions will include: Pushing Paint Around, Pae White: "Lisa, Bright & Dark" plus Visions Voices, the annual final gallery exhibition for SMoCA's teen "Visions" program inside the Young @ Art Gallery. MAY 17 LUCKY DUCKY DERBY AT THE WATERFRONT.  Sponsored by the Valley Kiwanis, the Arizona Lucky Ducky Derby raises funds for non-profit organizations through 'sunglass wearing rubber duck adoptions'. Up to 40,000 rubber ducks are expected to splash down in the SRP Canal.  Winning ducks will win great prizes for their adoptive parents. NEW EVENT:  VISIT CRAFTSMAN COURT ON FRIDAY EVENINGS TO VIEW CUSTOM & VINTAGE CARS.  Starting Friday, May 9 and running through Friday, May 30, Craftsman Court will serve as the backdrop for custom and vintage cars from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.  Craftsman Court is located on the west side of Scottsdale Road between Fifth Ave. and Third Ave.  Attendees are invited to stroll the area, view the cars on display and enjoy the wide variety of eateries and nightlife in the Downtown.  Event contact: (480) 941-9333
