  Scottsdale
tech projects win national awards

Five Scottsdale projects have won awards in a national competition sponsored by the non-profit Public Technology Institute.

The prestigious Technology Solutions Awards are presented annually by the Institute to local governments that can demonstrate how they apply technology to improve service delivery, reduce operating costs or create new revenue opportunities.

Scottsdale excelled in its population category, winning five of the 10 awards presented by the Institute.

Here’s a description of the Scottsdale projects that earned awards:

First place:

  • Web & E Government Services Award for the city’s Intranet SOA Portal Architecture entry – a way of developing software that allows different applications to exchange data with one another reducing duplication cost and increasing reliability.
  • Public Safety Award to the city’s Prosecution Information Network – a new system that manages all case files for the Prosecution Division and automatically communicates changes with the Scottsdale City Court.

Second place:

  • Sustainability Award for the city’s Carpool Connection Website – a program that allows city employees to search for carpool candidates living near their residence.
  • Telecom & IT Award for the city’s Agile Development and Project Management– a process that allows technology staff and their city clients to work as teams in developing and speeding the delivery of software applications
  • Public Safety Award for Increased Police Officer Productivity in the Field – implemented a wireless solution that enables the city’s police mobile workforce to replicate their office desktop functionality and speed while using their laptops in the field.
The Public Technology Institute is an organization created by and for local governments to identify opportunities for technology research, to share solutions, recognize member achievements and develop best practices that address the technology management, governance and policy issues that impact local government.

The Technology Solutions Awards will be presented May 12-14 in San Diego during the Institute’s annual conference and exposition.
