Experts to highlight potential for southern Scottsdale
at Saturday economic summit
Southern Scottsdale will get a thorough economic checkup Saturday as a team of experts evaluates the potential for redevelopment and investment in one of the Valley’s most centrally-located areas. More than a dozen experts in the fields of business and economics, real estate development, urban design, community planning and the automotive industry will participate.
Mayor W. J. “Jim” Lane is hosting the McDowell Road Corridor/South Scottsdale Economic Development Summit from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Granite Reef Senior Center, 1700 N. Granite Reef Road. The summit is free and open to the public.
The summit features a session on the future of Scottsdale’s “Motor Mile” on McDowell Road, once the state’s largest concentration of new car dealerships. Other sessions will focus on the geographic and demographic advantages of the area, and redevelopment and business opportunities along the corridor.
“As I have said before, due to this area's affordability, desirability and prime location, it will prove to be one of the best places to invest in the entire metro area,” said Mayor Lane.
Long-time commercial real estate investor Bill Gosnell, who is on a panel at the summit, is also optimistic: “With the potential of this area, it's not a matter of if but when. I'm looking forward to participating in this summit and to interacting with an excellent lineup of speakers.”
