Mayor Mary Manross delivered her annual State of the City address on April 3 from the Stetson Avenue Trolley Bridge, which spans the Arizona Canal east of Goldwater Boulevard and south of Camelback Road.

The theme for this year’s speech is “Linking Our Tradition with Vision.”

“We have a tradition for being a visionary city, and Scottsdale is at its best when we can link the wisdom of the past to our vision of the future,” Mayor Manross said.

The first State of the City speech mentioned in city records dates to April 5, 1988, when Mayor Herb Drinkwater delivered a brief speech after he was sworn in for a third term. The address has become an annual event.

The 2008 speech was videotaped and will be televised on CityCable 11. Here's the broadcast schedule:

  • 2 and 9 p.m., Friday, April 4
  • 2, 6 and 9 p.m. Saturday, April 5
  • 2, 6 and 9 p.m. every Sunday in April
