Mayor Forms Advisory Committee on Channel 11
Today Mayor Jim Lane announced that he is forming a task force to address Channel 11, the cable channel that is provided to the City of Scottsdale as part of the city’s cable license agreements.
“Channel 11 has served as a useful public communication tool but the City Council has not provided guidance to city staff regarding programming policies on Channel 11,” the Mayor said.
Two interview programs – the Scottsdale Republic Forum and the LINKS Forum -- were cancelled by the city staff in August 2008, raising questions in the community about the guidelines governing programming on the channel.
“Channel 11 is a critical tool in ensuring that Scottsdale government is open and accessible to the people of Scottsdale. But in order to fully utilize Channel 11, it is necessary to provide staff with policy guidance on how to go about this. This committee will start that process, and I hope that the Council completes it.”
“The Mayor’s Advisory Council on Channel 11 will provide input to me on enhancing the public communication potential of Channel 11. I will in turn make proposals to the City Council on maximizing the value of Channel 11 to Scottsdale residents,” said Mayor Lane.
The Mayor’s Advisory Council on Channel 11 will consist of seven members. Mayor Lane urged interested members of the public to contact his office by April 3 about serving, and also asked his fellow Council Members to help him in this effort by suggesting people to serve.
