  Seats still available for Scottsdale 101 classes


Space is still available for Scottsdale City Government 101, a free 8-week series of classes about Scottsdale city government and how it works.

The spring session starts Wednesday, March 19, and runs from 6 to 8 p.m. every week at various locations. A light dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. prior to the beginning of each class.

Here’s a schedule of Scottsdale 101 classes:

  • Wednesday, March 19: City Manager & Government Relations: Participants will receive an overview of the city and learn about the city’s relationship with other cities and items of interest to Scottsdale being considered in the state Legislature. The class takes place at the Human Resources Pinnacle Room, 7575 E. Main St.
  • March 26: Financial Services – city budget and sources of revenue. Economic Vitality– policies on attracting businesses to Scottsdale. The class takes place in the Human Resources Pinnacle Room.
  • April 2: Citizen & Neighborhood Resources - overview of this service department that assists in maintaining and enhancing the quality of life for Scottsdale residents by facilitating neighborhood preservation, revitalization and problem solving. Transportation – an overview of the department, issues related to moving people and goods and a tour of the Traffic Management Center. The class takes place in the One Civic Center building, Suite 105, 7447 E. Indian School Road.
  • April 9: Municipal Services/Capitol Projects – trash collection, street maintenance, fleet management, capital project construction. Water Resources/Storm Management – how the city provides water to its residents. The class takes place at the Granite Reef Senior Center, Room 7, 1700 N. Granite Reef Road.
  • April 16: Public Safety – overview of the Scottsdale Fire and Police departments. The class takes place at the Witzeman Public Safety Building, Arizona Room, 8401 E. Indian School Road.
  • April 23: Downtown Group - highlights of the Downtown area of the city and the projects in the area. Green Building - overview of the program. Planning - provide information on planning processes and procedure. The class takes place at the Granite Reef Senior Center, Room 7.
  • April 30: Representatives from the offices of the Mayor, Council and City Manager will provide an overview of issues facing the city and how City Council meetings are conducted. Community Services – overview of the department including Human Services, Libraries, Parks and Recreation. Government Relations. This class takes place at the Arabian Library, 10215 E. McDowell Mountain Ranch Road.
  • May 7: City Clerk - overview of the City Clerk's office and the 2008 elections. Mayor Manross and members of the City Council are scheduled to answer questions of participants and to present certificates of completion of the program. The class takes place at the Human Resources Pinnacle Room.
