  Feb. 28 Mayor/Council Breakfast will
  highlight challenges of Arizona's growth

Speakers at the next Scottsdale Mayor and City Council Breakfast will discuss how Arizona can prepare for a major challenge – a projected doubling of the state’s population in 45 years.

The panel discussion, focusing on an in-depth report on growth and land use by the Arizona Town Hall, is set for Feb. 28 at City Hall, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. for light refreshments. The program starts at 8.

“Land Use: Challenges and Choices for the 21st Century” was the topic of the 91st Town Hall, a gathering of about 150 citizens from across the state. The group made recommendations to better plan for land use and prepare for growth, including reform of State Trust Land laws, better regional cooperation, a clearer understanding of state private property protections and their relationship to planning, strengthened regulation of lot splits and unplanned development and more long-range planning at the state level.

Speakers scheduled to participate in the discussion include Jamie Hogue, deputy land commissioner, Arizona State Land Department; Yvonne Hunter, senior public affairs representative, Pinnacle West Capital Corp./APS; Tara Jackson, president, Arizona Town Hall and Tom Largo, councilmember, Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and Art Decabooter, president, Scottsdale Community College.

More information on the Town Hall report is available at the Arizona Town Hall Web site.

The breakfast is free and open to the public. It will also be broadcast live on CityCable 11.
