Registration begins for Scottsdale 101 spring session

  Registration begins for Scottsdale 101 spring session


The City of Scottsdale is taking applications for the spring 2009 session of Scottsdale City Government 101, a free 8-week series of classes about Scottsdale city government and how it works.

The spring session starts April 1, and runs from 6 to 8 p.m. every Wednesday at various locations. A light dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. prior to the beginning of each class.

Here’s a sample of the topics that will be presented in Scottsdale 101 classes:

  • City Manager, Mayor and Council offices: Participants will receive an overview of the city and learn about how a City Council meeting is conducted and how to present to the City Council.
  • Financial Services: City budget and sources of revenue.
  • Citizen & Neighborhood Resources: Overview of this service department that facilitates neighborhood preservation, revitalization and problem solving.
  • Transportation: An overview of the department, issues related to moving people and goods and a tour of the Traffic Management Center.
  • Municipal Services/Capital Projects: Trash collection, street maintenance, fleet management, capital project construction.
  • Public Safety: Overview of the Scottsdale Fire and Police departments.
  • Community Services: Overview of the department including human services, libraries, parks and recreation.
  • Community Collaboration: Learn about the city’s collaborations with the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce and the Scottsdale Convention and Visitors Bureau.
