The City of Scottsdale's Human Relations Commission and the Scottsdale Public Library System are proud to present Cross Cultural Communication Series to encourage discussion regarding issues of diversity. Why? It supports the commission's mission of "Creating Communication Networks to Promote Diversity and Move Towards the Elimination of Discrimination and Prejudice."

The wife of the sole Arizonan killed in 9/11 will be the keynote speaker at the kickoff program. Donna Killoughey-Bird's husband, Gary, was attending a business meeting at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, when he perished. What's changed since that unimaginable day a decade ago? How have we changed? Donna shares her compelling, emotional journey about personal strength and loss.

Learn strategies from Child Crisis Center's Neil Tift that have proven effective in creating more father-friendly environments, enhancing father inclusion in community programs and helping dads to build healthy relationships with the mothers of their children.

FEBRUARY - Catwalks for Scottsdale Fashion Week
Find out how much color will hit the catwalks for Scottsdale Fashion Week in February. We're not talking about the clothes...we're talking about the models! Joanna De' Shay of Black Russian Label and model Tanisha Mariko Harper, who was discovered in Arizona, host this program.

MARCH - Jews and Baseball: An American Love Story
The March program aligns with spring training with a screening of "Jews and Baseball: An American Love Story." This film is a story of immigration, assimilation, bigotry, heroism, the passing on of traditions and the shattering of stereotypes.

APRIL - The Crayon Box: The Mission of Multicultural Education
Erica Alexander presents the final program in this series which examines the relationship of cultural values to the formation of self concept and academic achievement. She will talk about current demographic trends in the United States and Arizona as it relates to educational policies and implications.
