QUALIFICATIONS
• Must possess current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED, First Aid and Water Safety Instructor Certifications.
• Requires two seasons of aquatic experience as a Water Safety Instructor.
• Current certifications must be shown at time of interview.
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, staff, and the public; able to work in chemically treated pool water and in direct sunlight; operate a computer and basic office equipment; prepare written reports; and communicate effectively with staff and the public.
• Must be able to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a daily basis.
• Previous experience with physical systems at a municipal pool; knowledge of water chemistry; report writing; customer service; EMT, LGT Instructor, and/or WSI-IT certifications are preferred.
• Bilingual skills are highly desirable.
• The Parks & Recreation Division enforces dress and appearance standards related to uniform, clothing, displaying tattoos, visible pierced body parts, hair color and style.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assigns and posts Lifeguards to duty areas; observes performance of staff. Schedules staff and assists with staff performance evaluation process with the Pool Manager. Schedules swim lesson and aquatic class instructors. Proficient is CLASS POS system, registration, facility booking, report printing and cash handling. Conducts lesson evaluations for all instructors on year round basis. Conducts lifeguard skill audit on a weekly basis. Conducts and supervises facility inspections and completes monthly VPP inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA standards. Completes facility maintenance work orders. Checks for proper maintenance and performs a variety of daily maintenance duties, which includes but is not limited to cleaning of facility and pool areas, vacuuming pool, backwashing, equipment maintenance and repair and management of hazardous chemicals for water treatment. Plans, organizes and conducts special pool facility events. Performs the duties of a Lifeguard and Cashier as needed. Develops and instructs in-service training programs for the staff. Enforces pool rules and regulations. Performs rescues and administers artificial respiration, CPR and First Aid. Completes group use billing, monthly attendance reports and daily cash handling. Oversees leisure education classes at fitness centers. Trains, supervises and evaluates staff. Accurately completes log books including training logs, chemical logs, attendance, inspections, accident/incident and skill training. Instruct and supervise water exercise classes. Completes accounting out of pocket costs for pool use to adhere to IGA agreement. Creates monthly facility programming calendar and marketing publications. Supervises community service workers, volunteers and Youth Corps participants. Proficient in the completion of staff timesheets and webtime data entry. Creates written reports and computer generated reports. Assists maintenance staff with collection of trash and field maintenance. Works with parks and maintenance staff with event, project and program set up, tear down, and clean up as needed. Physically moves throughout the park area or facility to observe park patrons and program participants. Performs other duties as assigned.
