QUALIFICATIONS

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Planning or Public Administration or a related field and one year of experience in community and citizen outreach programs.
• Requires knowledge of neighborhood associations and organizations involved in providing community and neighborhood services.
• Requires knowledge of principles and practices of neighborhood and program planning.
• Requires knowledge of principles and practices of program coordination and volunteer management.
• Requires ability to organize and provide leadership to citizen groups and committees.
• Requires ability to prepare reports and updates on a regular basis for management staff.
• Must be able to effectively present information to large groups of people and/or neighborhood associations.
• Requires ability to act calmly, rationally, decisively and tactfully in difficult situations.
• Must be able to proficiently perform computerized word processing, comprehension, summarizing and writing/editing.
• Must be able to attend or conduct various meetings as needed.
• Requires ability to listen and communicate effectively with a diverse group of people; establish and maintain good working relationships with City staff and the general public; demonstrate tact, diplomacy and good customer service skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Investigates citizen complaints as assigned.  Work in teams with other Citizen and Neighborhood Resources staff and with other City departments when needed to ensure resolution. Updates Customer Service and Communications Director on major issues. Plans programs to generate citizen involvement in property maintenance and neighborhood improvement efforts within identified target neighborhoods. Coordinates the Neighborhood Watch Program and the Community Mediation Program. Provides oversight on the materials, scheduling, set-up and all coordination for community outreach and education programs and community relations.  Works in conjunction with citizen liaisons, code inspectors, citizen service specialists and other city staff to accomplish the City’s goals and objectives.  Provides support to neighborhood associations in obtaining and coordinating community services.  Develops and encourages continuing neighborhood participation in neighborhood improvement efforts.  Provides information and education to neighborhood organizations.  Attends neighborhood association meetings.  Presents information on block watch and mediation services along with other safety education programs.  Provides assistance and support to other team members for programs as assigned, such as our neighborhood outreach events.  Assists in the coordination of public events, such as the GAIN annual event.  Performs other duties as assigned.
