QUALIFICATIONS

• Some knowledge of recreation methods and procedures and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions, deal effectively with City staff and the general public of all ages are required. 
• Must be able to conduct various recreation activities involving walking, running, bending, stooping, jumping, lifting and reaching. 
• Previous experience and/or related education or training will be given preference. 
• Regular, consistent attendance and punctuality are required. Requires some evenings and weekends.
• The Parks and Recreation Division enforce dress and appearance standards related to clothing style, displaying tattoos, pierced body parts, hair color and style.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists with various recreational activities for youth and adults at various community recreational facilities and in maintaining a safe recreational environment.  Specific duties vary with each position.  Multiple positions are available.  The different positions and starting hourly rates are:
Adapted Recreation Specialist, $8.84/hr - Provides assistance to children, teens or adults with disabilities. 
Adult Basketball Official, $13.19/hr - Officiates and maintains control of game and participants.
Adult Volleyball Official, $16.04/hr – Officiates and maintains control game and participants.
Adult Flag Football Official, $16.47/hr - Officiates and maintains control of game and participants.
Adult Kickball Official, $16.47/hr – Officiates and maintains control of game and participants.
Youth Sports Official/Coach, $9.61/hr – Officiates and maintains control of game and participants.
Adult/Youth Sports Scorekeeper, $9.61/hr - Keeps score at youth or adult sports games.  Records fouls, points and penalties on log sheet and keeps parents/participants informed of score.
Adult/Youth Sports Site Supervisor, $11.25/hr – Sets up, maintains and cleans up game site for various sports games. Assigns staff to game field/court, monitors scorekeepers, officials and coaches.
Data Entry Specialist, $12.84/hr – Answers registration phone calls, inputs registration from mail, telephone and fax, input program maintenance and maintains information in database, informs participants of program changes, cancellations, or additions.  Researches registration information,
Events Specialist, $9.61/hr - Assists with city wide special events. Sets-up & prepares for events.
Museum Attendant at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, $9.61/hr -- Takes tickets and provides customer service to park patrons wanting to walk through the museum.  Weekends are a must -- working approximately 3 days a week with a total of 15 -- 20 hours per week.
Specialty Class Instructor, $10.05/hr - Plans activities (indoor and outdoor) to include introduction to social skills, craft and games activities and provides supervision to ensure safe and enjoyable participation in class.
Youth Sports Coach/Official, $9.61/hr - Coach youth at a school site. Teaches participants fundamentals and sportsmanship. (Fall – Football & Volleyball, Winter – Basketball, Spring - Track)
Teen Employment Revitalization Program (STOMP), $8.74-$12.84/hr - This program is designed to provide employment opportunities for high school teens working to help senior citizens in our community.  This position will be responsible for painting, preparing surfaces (sanding/chipping/ power washing/taping) and application (brushing, rolling, power spraying); landscape maintenance (weed removal, shrub and tree trimming).
