QUALIFICATIONS

• Requires a minimum of six months work experience in parks or recreation related field.
• Must have some knowledge of maintenance and recreation methods and procedures. 
• Supervisory experience is desirable. 
• Some college coursework in parks, recreation or related field is desirable. 
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds to perform job duties such as setting up tables, special events equipment, etc. 
• Ability to plan, organize, and conduct various recreation programs and activities.
• Ability to resolve complaints, disciplinary problems, and violations of park rules. 
• Ability to work cooperatively with groups of all age levels and socio-economic backgrounds and other City employees. 
• Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements. 
• Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays. 
• Some positions require having a current valid Arizona Driver’s License and no major driving citations in the last 39 months. 
• Some positions require the ability to successfully complete CPR or Basic First Aid training within 6 months of hire date. 
• The Parks and Recreation Division enforce dress and appearance standards related to clothing style, displaying tattoos, pierced body parts, hair color and style. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans and conducts special events, games, sport activities, and arts and crafts for youth and adults at a neighborhood park, school, or community facility.  Resolves complaints, disciplinary problems, and violations of park rules. Supervises park activity and is responsible for maintenance support, including assistance with maintenance duties such as washing tennis courts, emptying trash, dragging ball fields, etc.  Completes written and computer generated reports; writes detailed manual records of accidents and other incidents that occur on the park grounds, school or community facilities.  Supervises and observes Recreation Leader I’s and assists in all park areas and facilities. Assists Coordinators and Maintenance staff with event, project, and program set up, tear down, and clean up, as needed.  Assists maintenance staff with collection of trash, field marking, and goal set up as needed.  Works with Parks and Maintenance staff in all operations of the service area, community, park and facility; including changing trash liners and picking up litter.  Physically moves around throughout the park area or facility to observe park patrons and program participants.  Some positions serve as Office Manager for the community center to answer phones, write reservations, and respond to citizens/park patrons on the phone or in person.  Some positions may require transporting of program participants in a City vehicle.
