Beat the HeatCity delivers nearly 200“Beat the Heat” care packages

Scottsdale city staff and volunteers delivered 193 "Beat the Heat" care packages to seniors in recent weeks.

Every June, the Via Linda and Granite Reef senior centers provide bags of summer goods for isolated, frail and homebound senior citizens. Residents donated supplies, which included reusable bags and water bottles, nutritional supplement drinks, small snack items, personal hygiene items, stamps and grocery gift cards.

Besides bringing relief to those in need, city staff gets the opportunity to personally assess the growing demands of homebound seniors. Senior centers accept donations year ‘round.

Loop 101/Indian School restrictions begin June 22 Commuters to downtown Scottsdale should prepare for a significant traffic restriction this summer. All exit and entrance ramps at the Loop 101 Freeway and Indian School Road interchange will be closed starting Monday, June 22, for 60 days. The restrictions are necessary to permit expansion of the freeway between the Loop 202 and Shea Boulevard.
