What will the trail look like?

trail cross section 2

In general, Mountain View Trail will be eight-feet wide with a vertical clearance of 10 feet.  The surface will be compacted or stabilized granite.

Will there be lights on the trail?

This trail will not be lit with the exception of the underpass on Shea Boulevard.

Who can use the trail?

The trail will be used by the general public.  It may be used by pedestrians, equestrians and bicyclists.  It is designated for non-motorized access and will be signed as such.  Enforcement of rules governing the use of multiuse paths is outlined in the Scottsdale Revised Code, which includes prohibiting use of motorized vehicles on the trails.

Who owns the trail?

The trail will be built on a series of easements held by the City of Scottsdale which allow legal access for public trails.  These public access areas have been dedicated over time.  Right of way, trail and public easements were typically dedicated concurrent with adjacent land development.

As a homeowner along the trail alignment what is my liability?

The homeowners adjacent to the trail are not liable for the activity of others who willfully or unknowingly create a problem on the trail.

Who will take care of the trail?

In accordance with recommendations by the 2009 Trails Task Force, adjacent homeowner associations and commercial property owners or management companies will maintain the trail to their property limits.  The City of Scottsdale will maintain the trail next to private properties without associations.

When was this project approved and whose idea was it?

The Mountain View Trail was approved by the City Council as a component of the 1991 General Plan.  Voters approved the funding during the 2000 Bond election.  In 2004 the Scottsdale Trails Master Plan identified this corridor as a high priority for implementation and in March of 2010 the City Council approved the current design contact.

What is the purpose of this trail?

Mountain View Trail will provide a missing link in Scottsdale’s trail network.  Its construction will allow users to make the following connections:• Stonegate Equestrian Park to a trail in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve near the Lost Dog Wash Trailhead
• Links to existing and proposed trails along the Central Arizona Project Canal
• Links to proposed trails along Shea Boulevard.
• Links to existing trails radiating out of Stonegate Equestrian Park

How much will it cost and where did the funding come from?

The project is funded by the Bond 2000 program, which allocated $2.3 million for several trail connections, including Mountain View Trail.

When will the trail be built?

This trail is currently being designed.  Construction of Segments 1 and 3 is expected to begin in early 2012.  Construction will take approximately four months to complete.
