McDowell Road Improvements
The City of Scottsdale is planning a number of improvements to McDowell Road including enhanced sidewalks, bike lanes, lighting and landscaping. Here are some specific projects happening in the near future.
This summer the city will improve the McDowell Road bridge over the Indian Bend wash. Currently, the McDowell Road bridge provides two lanes in each direction without bike lanes or a protected pedestrian path.
The city will build an eight-foot wide pedestrian walkway structural extension along the north and south sides of the bridge and add a bike lane on McDowell Road from 77th Street to Miller Road.
Additional work in the area will include new sidewalks, driveways, sidewalk ramps, transitions, relocating a bus shelter and street lighting.
The bridge widening will create a street environment that is safe and secure for pedestrians and allow pedestrians to directly access city park amenities and businesses located along Indian Bend Wash.

The City of Scottsdale has started designing a number of pedestrian and transit improvements along the north side of McDowell Road from Scottsdale Road to Miller Road.
We will expand the sidewalk from six feet wide to eight feet wide, separate it from the curb where possible, make other adjustments to meet ADA standards, and add landscaping and new transit stops.
A public meeting will be held to view the proposed improvements and seek community feedback this fall; construction is tentatively scheduled to take place in the winter/spring of 2015.
